WALNUT 4/4 PAGE 6 NEXT PAGE PREVIOUS PAGE
OK. We are ready to turn the log 180 degrees. Turn by hydraulics, with a cant hook, or by hand. Any way you feel is best for you. We are ready to remove the last slab. The height of this cut needs to work out evenly for our 4/4 lumber. Remember 7" is a magic number, so we start here. Again, 7" would make a thick slab, wasting a board. Go up to 8-3/16". This looks good, cut.
Now we have a 8-3/16" square. We can look at the wood and choose the best looking faces to cut with the square in any direction and all the boards will automatically work out perfect thickness with no waste. I choose which side is best and turn that face up. Now I can cut at 7". My magic number for 4/4 lumber.
