Turn the log, level and clamp. You can cut at any height that makes a thin slab. I see that 11-3/8" is a pretty good height to start for two reasons. ONE: This makes a thin slab, maximizing yield, and TWO: Starting at 3/8" above any whole inch on the scale is easy to figure a lower setting if I cut another board. 3/8" is equal to two kerfs for 4/4 lumber. If I choose to saw another board from this face without turning the log, I can drop easily from 11-3/8" to 10-3/16", and drop again to 9" even, if I need to. No set-works can work as fast as a human brain, with just a couple tricks like this. I decide to make another cut before turning. I drop from 11-3/8" to 10-3/16" and cut.
