QUARTER-SAWING INSTRUCTIONS BEGIN LESSON

BACK TO TRAINING

"Quarter-sawing" is a technique of sawing high grade butt and second cut oak logs that are at least 14 inches inside the bark and with nearly perfect symmetry. Lumber sawed in this way shows the radial patterns within the log. Lumber sawed this way can easily bring double the price of standard lumber. It takes longer to saw a log, but not too much longer after you are familiar with the technique. I usually start with a freshly sharpened blade and re-sharpen after each log is done. This is important because the blade is cutting very wide boards and the yield is very valuable. I want to minimize any chance to ruin this good lumber. The yield from a 19" log is 150 feet of lumber worth $2.50 per foot, or $375.00. If you saw 3 or 4 logs in a day, that's really good money. I charge $.35 per bd ft for cutting quarter-sawed lumber from customers logs. This is the pattern in Oak only available by Quarter-sawing. If you are interested in how to quarter-saw,   BEGIN LESSON
