QUARTER-SAWING INSTRUCTIONS  PAGE 9  BACK TO START   PREVIOUS PAGE

BACK TO TRAINING

This is the yield from our 19" log. 150 board feet + of quarter-sawed oak. If I kiln dry this, it will sell for $375.00, or more. When you saw good butt logs in this way you can usually make one or two 2-1/4" squares out of each remaining waste piece of quarter, for turning squares for stair banisters. I sell these for $1.75 per board foot, green, to a stair manufacturer. This will increase yield by $20-30 per log. The log we sawed for the photos was not suitable for making these. Any questions? E-mail us.  mark@earthbilly.com

Here is another example of a log sliced up for quarter-sawed lumber.
