AMAZON 2003 MISSION TRIP   BACK TO JOURNAL

START SLIDE SHOW

My second trip to the Amazon, Rita's first. We arrived in Iquitos, Peru, and prepared to travel up the river to a remote mission outpost. By large boat, it would be a three day journey to the village at the confluence of the Chambria River and the Maranon River. From there, we would travel by canoe to our destination, Nuevo San Juan, on the Chambria River.

We chose to travel by "Fast Boat", a twenty foot, flat bottom aluminum boat. It was suppose to be a faster transport. Two days instead of three, and we could sleep on the land, instead of twenty four hours a day traveling. It turned out to be slower, due to breakdowns. But it was really a trip to remember.
